Vastra Veda is a skill development initiative that trains women in the timeless and beautiful art of traditional Assamese handloom weaving. It is often said that Assamese women weave dreams in their looms—and through this project, those dreams are being nurtured and empowered. In quarterly batches of 35 women, participants are trained in weaving intricate motifs inspired by the vibrant flora and fauna of Assam.
This initiative not only revives and preserves a cultural heritage but also provides a means of financial independence and social upliftment for rural women. By mastering this art, these women are not only becoming artisans but also ambassadors of Assamese tradition. Project Vastra Veda is weaving threads of pride, skill, and hope into the fabric of everyday life—one loom at a time.
