To ensure that children studying in a government school have meaningful access to technology and opportunities to develop the digital skills increasingly essential for their education and future careers.

Govt. L.P. School, Koothali Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala Chapter: India

1. Executive Summary

Shreekara World Foundation marked an important milestone under Project Shiksha with the inauguration of a new Computer Lab at Govt. L.P. School, Koothali, Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala, on 21 August 2026.

The initiative was undertaken with a clear purpose: to ensure that children studying in a government school have meaningful access to technology and opportunities to develop the digital skills increasingly essential for their education and future careers.

Donated by Shreekara World Foundation, the Computer Lab is expected to benefit approximately 300 students. It provides a dedicated environment in which technology can become an integral part of everyday learning rather than something distant or inaccessible.

The inauguration was attended by Smt. Papori Hazarika Palkar, Founder Director and Chairperson of Shreekara World Foundation, and Shri Sheetal Palkar, Founder Director of Shreekara World Foundation, along with Smt. Viji R., Headmistress, teachers, students and members supporting the Foundation's Kerala initiatives.

More than the opening of a room equipped with computers, the programme represented the opening of new possibilities for children.

2. About Project Shiksha

Project Shiksha is the education initiative of Shreekara World Foundation. It is founded on the belief that education is one of the most powerful instruments for transforming lives and strengthening communities.

Through Project Shiksha, the Foundation supports children and educational institutions where focused interventions can create meaningful and lasting impact.

As education becomes increasingly connected with technology, digital literacy can no longer be viewed as an optional skill. For today's children, it is an essential part of learning, communication, creativity and future employability.

The Computer Lab initiative in Kerala therefore represents an important expansion of Project Shiksha into digital inclusion and technology-enabled education.

3. Why a Computer Lab?

A child may be intelligent, curious and eager to learn, yet lack access to the tools that many others take for granted. Over time, this difference in access can become a difference in opportunity.

  • Basic computer literacy and confidence
  • Familiarity with digital learning
  • Keyboard and computer-operation skills
  • Access to educational resources
  • Logical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Creativity and curiosity
  • Confidence in using technology
  • A stronger foundation for higher education and future employment

Shreekara World Foundation therefore views the Computer Lab not merely as an infrastructure donation, but as an investment in the future capabilities of children.

4. The Computer Lab Initiative

The Computer Lab has been established as a dedicated space where students can gain practical exposure to computers and digital education within their own school environment.

The initiative included the provision of 10 desktop computers, along with supporting infrastructure such as UPS and networking facilities. This equipment enables the school to introduce structured computer learning for its students.

The lab is expected to serve approximately 300 children, with successive batches of students benefiting from the facility year after year.

The Foundation's vision is that the computers should not remain simply as equipment in a classroom. They should become active instruments of learning, discovery and confidence-building.

5. Inauguration - 21 August 2026

The Computer Lab was formally inaugurated on 21 August 2026 in the presence of the school community and representatives of Shreekara World Foundation.

The ceremony was attended by Smt. Papori Hazarika Palkar, Founder Director and Chairperson, Shreekara World Foundation, and Shri Sheetal Palkar, Founder Director, Shreekara World Foundation.

The warmth and enthusiasm of Headmistress Smt. Viji R., teachers and students made the occasion particularly memorable.

One of the most meaningful moments for the Foundation was witnessing the excitement and curiosity of the children as they entered the Computer Lab and interacted with the new facility.

When we give a child access to knowledge, we do not merely provide a resource—we create the possibility of a different future.

6. A Celebration of Education, Culture and Community

The inauguration became even more meaningful as it coincided with the school's Onam celebrations.

The children and teachers welcomed the guests warmly and presented a cultural programme reflecting the joy and traditions of Kerala.

The celebration concluded with Onam Sadhya, bringing together the school community and the Foundation in a spirit of happiness, gratitude and togetherness.

This combination of education, technology, culture and community participation made the programme much more than a formal inauguration. It became a celebration of children and their aspirations.

7. Impact - Reaching Approximately 300 Students

The immediate beneficiaries of this initiative are approximately 300 children studying at the school.

However, the impact of an educational infrastructure project extends beyond the number of students present on the day of inauguration.

Each new group of students entering the school will have the opportunity to use the facility. Teachers can integrate digital resources into classroom learning, while students who might otherwise receive little or no practical exposure to computers can become comfortable with technology from an early age.

Immediate Impact: Approximately 300 students gain access to computer education and digital learning facilities.

Educational Impact: Teachers receive an additional resource to supplement classroom instruction and introduce technology-supported learning.

Long-Term Impact: Successive batches of students can continue benefiting from the lab, enabling the initial investment to generate educational value for many years.

8. Beyond Infrastructure - Towards Sustainable Impact

Shreekara World Foundation believes that meaningful philanthropy should extend beyond one-time donations.

The inauguration of the Computer Lab is therefore the beginning rather than the end of the initiative.

The Foundation looks forward to working with the school and its Kerala team to make the facility increasingly useful and sustainable.

  • Regular computer-learning sessions
  • Basic digital-literacy programmes
  • Age-appropriate educational content
  • Teacher involvement and capacity building
  • Monitoring computer utilisation
  • Encouraging the responsible use of technology
  • Periodic assessment of student participation and learning
  • Ongoing maintenance and sustainability planning

The long-term aspiration is to develop a model in which technology genuinely strengthens educational outcomes.

9. Building Shreekara's Presence in Kerala

The Koothali Computer Lab initiative is also a meaningful step in strengthening the work of Shreekara World Foundation in Kerala.

The programme demonstrated what can be achieved when the Foundation's leadership, technical team, committed local volunteers and school authorities work together towards a shared purpose.

The Foundation gratefully acknowledges the important contributions of Mr. Hrishikesh Barua, Director, Shreekara World Foundation; Mr. Dhrubajyoti Saikia, IT Coordinator, Shreekara World Foundation; and Kerala Chapter volunteers Ms. Arya M.S., Mr. Abhi Asok and Mr. Amith Gopakumar.

Their collective contribution, coordination and commitment played an important role in bringing the Computer Lab project to completion. Mr. Hrishikesh Barua's involvement in the project, together with the technical support and coordination provided by Mr. Dhrubajyoti Saikia, helped strengthen its planning and implementation. At the local level, Ms. Arya M.S., Mr. Abhi Asok and Mr. Amith Gopakumar provided valuable on-ground support, helping coordinate with the school, prepare the facility and ensure the smooth execution of the programme.

The Foundation deeply appreciates their commitment to Project Shiksha and their continued service to the community.

10. A Message from the Founder and Chairperson

Smt. Papori Hazarika Palkar
Founder Director and Chairperson, Shreekara World Foundation

“For Shreekara World Foundation, this Computer Lab is not simply a donation of computers. It is our small effort to place opportunity into the hands of children.

When I saw the happiness and curiosity of the children, I was reminded once again why education must remain at the heart of social development.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, explore and dream, irrespective of their economic background.

If this Computer Lab helps even one child discover a new ability, gain confidence, pursue higher education or imagine a future that once seemed beyond reach, our effort will have been worthwhile.

Today, approximately 300 children have access to this facility. Tomorrow, many more children will pass through this school and benefit from it.

That is the kind of impact Shreekara hopes to create—quiet, meaningful and sustainable.”

11. Our Gratitude
