To provide food and clothes to the flood hit families in Konkan region of Maharashtra in order to bring their devastated lives on track.
In the midst of the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic, another tragic news emerged: the Western Ghats along the Konkan coast of Maharashtra encountered record-breaking rainfall which triggered devastating floods and landslides. Due to incessant rainfall and discharge from the local Koyna dam, the river Jagbudi, along with the Vashishti and the Kodavali, crossed the danger level and submerged large parts of the coastal region. During this devastating flood, hundreds have lost their lives and many are still missing along with tremendous damage to property and infrastructure, and destruction of crops and livestock.
Villages and towns in Ratnagiri, Khed, and Chiplun, where the Jagbudi and the Vashishti flow, were submerged by 10-12 feet of water. In some areas, the water level rose as high as 20 feet, resulting in widespread loss of life and livelihood.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
To provide food and clothes to the flood hit families in Konkan region of Maharashtra in order to bring their devastated lives on track.
ACTION PLAN
Shreekara World Foundation identified Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts to provide necessities. Our on ground volunteers have been working tirelessly around the clock to reach out to people and provide essentials. Our volunteers provided immediate assistance to the affected people, followed by the distribution of new clothing to men, women and children, including satranjis (mats), blankets, towels, chappals, drinking water, and basic medicines and utensils.
